Exhibition 2024 - 'This is Not a Selfie'

The history of portraiture, from painted canvases to photographic prints, has long been a study in constructed identity. Today, this impulse culminates in the pervasive 'selfie'—a constant, curated barrage of images that fills our social media feeds and personal archives, often concealing more than it reveals about who we are and the reality of our relationships. Posing for the camera or the artist can become an act of hiding, a performance designed for external approval. In an age of endless self-reflection, large acrylic paintings in the "This is Not a Selfie" series challenge this facade.
