Their faces are hidden, obscured by their closeness, making this moment entirely about the emotion rather than appearance. The gesture is tender and genuine, the kind of spontaneous affection that happens when camera phones are forgotten.

The second painting shows these same two women in animated conversation, viewed from behind as they stand in the shallow surf. Hair blown by the sea breeze, hands gesturing mid-discussion, footprints in the wet sand—this is the candid reality of friendship at the beach. They’re completely absorbed in their exchange, unaware and unconcerned with how they might appear to others.

Together, these works challenge the pervasive culture of curated beach imagery. There are no posed “beach body” selfies here, no strategic angles or filters. Instead, we see real bodies, real joy, and real connection. The paintings honour the beauty of women simply being—swimming, talking, embracing—without performing for an audience.
