Two Anangu women sit painting on the red earth near Uluru. The intensity of the red ground dominates the scene—vivid, almost overwhelming—while behind them the landscape stretches out with its golden grasses and distant trees. There's an intimacy to the moment—two artists working side by side, focused and present. The painting captures a living tradition, not a romanticized past. These women are creating contemporary work on Country, continuing practices that connect them to place and culture. In the  "This Is Not a Selfie," series, this work asks us to see beyond superficial images and recognize the depth of connection between artist, land, and practice.

The title respectfully references the Aṉangu people, the Traditional Owners who live in the Mutitjulu community located behind Uluru. The artwork honours the deep tradition of storytelling through art while celebrating new connections and the enduring inspiration of Country.
