These clay pieces are my interpretation of the Shahmeran (Shah of Snakes), one of Turkiye's most enduring mythological figures. On my recent visit to Turkiye I loved the traditional paintings of a Shahmeran on glass that adorn houses and restaurants throughout the country. Half woman, half serpent, she emerges from ancient Persian and Anatolian traditions as a symbol of profound wisdom, healing knowledge, and the liminal space between human and natural worlds.
